DIY Homemade Smooth Peanut Butter

So, it dawned on me the other day that I've been completely ignoring the DIY section of Happy Healthy Motivated! Now, I could go on to explain and tell you about the million and one excuses that I come up with on the spot, or I could make it up to you with the best DIY recipe on the blog yet. How does that sound?

I'm currently living with a very very VERY sick Official Treat Taster. So sick, in fact, that we were stuck inside all weekend. All weekend, people! I'm stuck inside a tiny office all week and love nothing more than running around like a dog off a leash come Friday, so staying inside all weekend when the sun was blaring outside absolutely killed me. To keep me from going insane, I did a loads of cleaning, baking and cooking. I also tackled some things I've been wanting to try for a while, like this DIY homemade peanut butter. And let me tell you, I'm so SO glad I did!

Homemade Peanut Butter #Recipe - this from-scratch version is a cheaper, healthier and more natural version than the stuff you get in the stores. If you love peanut butter and you've never made your own before, you've got to try it! | www.happyhealthymotivated.com

My Official Treat Taster was convinced that the homemade spread wouldn't even compare to the store-bought stuff - needless to say, I was a bit more than peeved by this remark... He wasn't even sure that you could make it and thought it just 'came' in jars. I'm not sure about you guys, but I've never seen jars of peanut butter hanging from the trees. Well after all that you know what? Half the jar has gone in less than four days and I've only had a couple of teaspoons' worth. Shows what he knows!

Even if you're one of those people who buy the fancy organic stuff that has absolutely no bad things in whatsoever I beg you to make homemade peanut butter! Not only is it super simple, really quick and only requires four ingredients (!!!) the texture is fabulous and the taste is amazing! The biggest plus point for me is the price. Here in Tenerife, a small jar of peanut butter works out at around $4, which is why you'll never see me baking with it. I've seen so many delicious recipes that I'd love to try, but the ingredients include two jars of peanut butter and I'm just not gonna pay that much for a couple of chocolate peanut butter cookies, you know?

But since the homemade stuff is a fraction of the cost, I can bake bake bake with it until I get fed up! So get ready for a boat load of peanut butter recipes coming your way, that's if My Official Treat Taster hasn't devoured the rest of the jar by the time I get home.

Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 1 small jar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1-3 tablespoons peanut oil
  • ½-1 tablespoon powdered sugar

  • Place the roasted peanuts into a food processor and blend on high until they're finely ground up - this can take up to 3 minutes.

  • Scrape into a jar and store in the fridge.

Notes

There are really no exact measures when it comes to making homemade peanut butter. You'll have to find out the quantities that work for you to get the desired consistency and taste, but the ones above are a great guide.

I've been wanting to try making homemade peanut butter, but always assumed I'd have to own one of those incredibly expensive blenders. I love that your recipe can be made in a food processor!

I love how organic PB tastes when all it contains is peanuts. One day I'd like to make homemade PB and almond butter. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
