It's sweet, it's spicy and it's pink (kinda...more red, actually) - it's a Spicy Raspberry, Lime & Jalapeño Margarita! Before you go running off into the distance away from the crazy lady who stuck a jalapeño into a deliciously sweet margarita, just give me one blog post to change your mind about unusual ingredients (i.e. jalapeños) in cocktails, k?
Before I begin telling you how awesome this cocktail is, I want to get something off my chest. I hate photographing red food. I'm not sure whether it's because of the lighting in the room where I do my food photography shoots [it's my office, if you were wondering :)] or whether it's because of my crappy camera, but the colours never turn out right and the shot always looks generally fuzzy and out of focus. Anyone find the same thing?
I'm planning on buying a brand new camera this month (yay!) so hopefully that will fix the problem. Now, back to these amazing margaritas and my efforts to attract attention away from the fuzzy red by taking photos at weird angles.
I don't really like plain margaritas - probably because I don't like the taste of tequila. At all. I hate it that much that I've never once gone through the unusual shot process that the whole world seems to connect through when you lick salt off your hand, down a shot of tequila and then bite on a lime. If the taste of raw lime juice is better than the liquid you just drank, maybe you shouldn't be drinking it...? Just sayin'. I always spoil the fun.
So, although I don't like plain lime margaritas, I do loooove trashed up margaritas, with so many ingredients thrown in that you can't even taste the tequila. Strawberry margaritas will always be my favourite, but seeing as this was the last in my Cinco de Mayo Week post (the other two posts are here: Mexican BBQ Burger and Crunchy Baked Tilapia Tacos, in case you missed them) I knew I had to do something special. Like change up the fruit and throw a jalapeño in there.
Let's just clear something up - when I say Spicy Raspberry, Lime & Jalapeño Margarita, I don't mean spice in terms of heat, I mean spice in terms of flavour. This margarita doesn't burn your lips or tongue when you drink it, but the distinct flavour of jalapeño is certainly there. I't probably not to everyone's taste - like those who hate jalapeños, for example... - but I love it.
So instead of serving the same ol' regular margaritas at your next Cinco de Mayo bash, maybe trash it up a bit with some of these Spicy Raspberry, Lime & Jalapeño Margaritas. I guarantee it will get your guests talking! (Even if they are just talking about how weird you are for putting jalapeños in a cocktail.)
Ingredients
- ¼ cup frozen raspberries
- ¼ cup ice
- 1 shot tequila how much you use is entirely up to you
- juice of ½ lime
- 1-2 oz lemonade to taste to sweeten it up
- 2 paper-thin rounds of jalapeño
- optional: extra whole jalapeño for serving
Instructions
- Throw all the ingredients into the blender and process until smooth.
- Pour into a margarita glass and decorate with a whole jalapeño.

This looks super yummy! I've only had one cocktail with jalapeno in it, but I am starting to see more out there! I'm definitely trying this one.

Love the pictures! Have to say, I've never heard of adding a jalapeno to margaritas, what a novel idea, especially the strawberry margaritas. Pinning this for the summer 😉
