As of yesterday, we are officially into spring, so bring on zesty citrus flavours, crisp light salads and jugs of slushie cocktails like this one. Whilst I pretty much love every kind of cocktail ever, I have a special fondness for cocktails in slushie form.
The first time I ever had a cocktail slushie was when I went on holiday with My Official Treat Taster. We were stood by the pool bar deciding which cocktails we wanted, when he ordered a vodka Slush Puppy. Yep, that popular neon-blue children's drink spiked with vodka. I didn't know whether to be disgusted or in awe.
Milliseconds later I was ordering my own vodka Slush Puppy, so I guess I was more in awe than disgusted. If you've never had a vodka-spiked Slush Puppy, I definitely recommend them!
Okay, so you probably can't order them at regular Slush Puppy stands because they probably don't have vodka on hand, but I'm sure bars and restaurants that have Slush Puppy machines will be more than happy to give you one. Then take an extra $5 from you for adding a splash of vodka.
Whatever you do, just make sure you don't get your Slush Puppy mixed up with your kid's one, yeah?
Excuse the hastily cleaned, dusty terrace table. I didn't plan on photoing this cocktail until the last minute and then I didn't have time to properly clean the table because I was worried the slushies would melt. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
So whereas regular Slush Puppies are packed full of nasties in that weird gloopy syrup that looks like something you so shouldn't eat yet somehow tastes magical, this Strawberry White Wine Slushie is full of good stuff. And by good stuff, of course, I mean strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, Spite and white wine. Can't forget the white wine!
You don't need to use a good quality white wine for this cocktail, either. When I was shopping for the ingredients, I knew I'd be mixing the wine with other stuff so I only picked up a cheap bottle of white and it still tasted amazing. I always say never use top-quality alcohol when you're making a cocktail. I'm sure some people would seriously disagree with me, but that's what I think.
My Official Treat Taster and I enjoyed a few glasses of this after coming back from our local water park last weekend. Each year we get annual passes to the water park and we've just recently been able to start going again and I absolutely love it. Lounging around in the sunshine and alternating between reading and sleeping before flying down awesome water slides? Pretty much my perfect weekend. So happy spring is here!
